Be-Bop! is one of my latest songs to date and one of my favourites. I’m not sure where it came from to be honest. It was like, out of nowhere! I suspect alien influence but I’m not mad enough to insist on it… You know how slowly the world conforms to change. I mean, it…
Anyway, I was in the kitchen making a cuppa (tea of course) when I started humming to myself. After the tune hit me, the words starting coming. So, with cuppa in hand I quickly made my way to the table, (Which is all the way across to the other side of the kitchen, mind you. Four steps to be precise.) placed my cup down and cranked the laptop. I couldn’t get ms word to start quick enough while the inspiration had a grasp with words and music floating around in my head… I even had a bit of a jittery moment. (Mm. Come to think of it, I have a lot of those. Anyway…)
The lyrics to Be-bop came quite easy but I had a whole jazz orchestra playing in my head so my next problem was having to settle for my only resources to hand… My trusty guitar and feeble playing skills… After some trial and error, I managed to put together a rather shabby rendition of what was going on in my mind. It was then I had a rather ingenious thought… Take it to Brian! So, like a kid ready to show off his new toy, I excitedly made my way around to Brian’s.
Brian and I had already brought a few of my songs into fruition but It wasn’t easy trying to get across to him all that was going on in my head for Be-bop!
Trying to communicate exactly what is going through one’s mind is sometimes far easier when writing than vocally in person, (especially with a tad of excitement in the mix) and Be-Bop sounded a little too dubious to Brian at first. After eventually managing to communicate it a bit clearer, we still were not sure how it was all going to work. We tried different instruments individually and together, including Brian’s new synthesizer, with lots of, ‘No, that’s not it, and that’s close but not quite there, to That’s it! Now let’s try and add…’
After numerous visits our perseverance paid off and soon Be-Bop! even became Brian’s favourite of my songs. We decided he had the better vocals for this one… Sometimes vocal decisions are so much easier than that of other instruments especially when there’s only two people involved… Small mercies!
Anyway, I’ve rambled on enough (So unlike me, I know.) so here’s my latest song. I do hope you enjoy it!

Lyrics
Be-Bop!
There goes that sound again.
Be-Bop!
There goes that sound again.
When I hear that sound it starts something in me
I can’t stop moving cause it sets me free
Be-e-Bop… There goes that sound again
There goes that sound again.
Be-Bop!
There goes that sound again.
When I hear that sound it starts something in me
I can’t stop singing cause it sets me free
Be-e-Bop… There goes that sound again
When you hear that music beat ring in your ear
Once you start swinging you’ll find it hard to stop
Then you sing along and it becomes harder still
That’s the magic of the old Be-Bop.
Be-Bop
There goes that sound again.
Be-Bop!
There goes that sound again.
When you hear that sound it starts something you see
You dance and sing because it sets you free
Be-e-Bop… There goes that sound again
Trumpet solo (chorus)
Be-Bop
There goes that sound again.
Be-Bop!
There goes that sound again.
When you hear that sound it starts something you see
You dance and sing because it sets you free
Be-e-Bop… There goes that sound again
Sounds good… Don’t spill your coffee! 😀

You had me dancing in the kitchen, thinking of Caribbean beaches.

I’ve added both the YouTube embed and the Soundcloud link to this post and have therefore done a reblog rather than redo the whole post.

Oh, I understand that. But you two (your muse and you) are “spurring” each other along. I tapped my toes to your tune all day.

Thank you, Pam! My muse can be a tyrant sometimes though… We have lots of arguments. Lol

I LOVE this kind of inspiration – it’s the best, when it hits us with a soft hammer and says, “write it! play it! create it!” No wonder it’s your favorite. Very well done. (And what a great muse you have…)

So impressed that any musician can just write music or lyrics write off the top of his/her head, Kevin. I’ve had a great life with so few regrets, but one of my few is I never learned to play an instrument. At sixty years old, I’ve recently decided that it’s not too late, and I’m self-teaching myself the guitar. I like to tease my wife and tell her that I’m going to be the oldest rock and roller out there, but she can still be one of my groupies. (She’s used to my sense of humor after almost thirty-three years).

Hi Amanda. Thanks for that. Yes, it can be a very challenging process, but fun at the same time. Some songs come easily and seemlessly flow from mind to guitar, others not so. 🙂

Wow, indeed! I enjoy music but I don’t know any music or play any instruments, so I’m always in awe of composers. Way to go!

So, I’m sitting here doing the toe tap as I listen to this. The melody and lyrics are contagious. It’s impossible not to smile while Be-Bop! is playing. Very catchy. LOVE IT, Kev!

Great song, so fun. I’m envious of your talent, I’ve always wondered what it would be like to have a new song appear in my head. It must be such an interesting process to get it out of your head and turn it into sound.
