I wrote this song after going through a rough patch in which I had to give up my beloved house and I had to become a council tenant which is something I never thought would happen. However I still considered myself to be lucky when I thought about those who are not so fortunate and end up on the streets. Hence the cover I used for this song.

Lyrics
Travelling Light
That’s the way I’m going
Travelling Light
That’s the way I came
I have no care for many a possession
For wealthy or for poor it’s all the same
When the die is rolled for you there’s not much you can do
One can still be content in life, my son this much is true
Life has its way to drag you down no matter how you try
But you can still live happy and contented ‘til you die
Travelling Light
That’s the way I’m going
Travelling Light
That’s the way I came
I have no care for many a possession
For wealthy or for poor it’s all the same
Life can be so cruel it’s not always fair or kind
You can’t take it when you go. It all gets left behind
Whatever it is life throws at you, I know you can contend
You can still be happy and content unto the end
Travelling Light
That’s the way I’m going
Travelling Light
That’s the way I came
I have no care for many a possession
For wealthy or for poor it’s all the same
(Repeat)
I have no care for many a possession
For wealthy or for poor it’s all the same.
Glad you liked it, Debbie! 🙂

If we can learn something from each experience in our lives, then one can’t put a price on that. Great lesson learned, Kevin.

How horrific. I have heard of similar experiences here in Hull as well. Cannot imagine how awful that must have been. We must all count our blessings. Thanks for sharing that, Clare. 🙂

I love this one, Kevin! It must have been heart-breaking to have to lose your house. I am glad you were able to get a council house; so much better than being on the streets. My mother and her family were bombed out during the war and lost almost everything they had and had to start again, collecting clothes and furniture.

YES, it’s excellent. And if Henry David Thoreau was alive, he’d be clapping his hands – to the music, and to you.
